The Roll

There is something about soft, dusty, dry dirt, that most horses simply cannot resist.

They must roll...

The time spent rolling is directly proportional to how clean they are.

Just for the record, if dry dirt isn't available, wet squishy mud has been found to be a great substitute.

We came in from a ride one time and pulled the saddles from our horses, and they began to roll. We had a yearling that had not been on the ride, but he started rolling in the dirt too - as if he did not want to miss the fun.

I could live with rolling in the dirt. One of my dogs, OTOH, had this strange affinity for cat poop... as in rolling in it. Dead fish, too. A walk on the beach with that dog wasn't... if ya get my drift. :D

There is an alpaca farm not far from my house - about 3 dozen of them in various fields and pastures. We've seen them drop and roll just like this horse - funniest damn thing!
