A Baby was born Today

This filly was born about 3pm today, to our friends mare. DN2 works at the farm, and had gone to check on the mare, and discovered there was a baby on the ground. She called for reinforcements, and they quickly got mom and baby into a nice straw filled stall. Thankfully, mom is one of the most trusting mares in the world. This is mom:

I'll get more pics in the next couple of days. I wanted to keep my presence to a minimum, so they could rest.

Sorry about that. I had an issue with a spammer and ended up blocking a particular blogger image url, which messed up half the blogs I read. *sigh* Thank goodness I have an extremely computer savvy daughter who fixed everything again.
Which is why I ended up deleting my comments, because they made me sound like an idiot!
So now I can see the beautiful baby!
And she is very, very beautiful. I love the white star she has. Mom looks very mellow.
And the baby shares a birthday with me, too! How cool is that?

What a beautiful mare and foal! Please keep the photos coming.

If you get a chance you should check out Allen Pogues' foal training page at www.imagineahorse.com
That foal would look great on a beanbag and you still have a window of time to teach the foal to sit. It would make a world of difference in how the foal's training progresses. Good luck!

Christina: no worries. I made a major faux pas on Daphne's blog last night, but thankfully she caught it and fixed it, post haste. The mare is very mellow, one of the sweetest horses I know. Which is a big plus, since she didn't mind letting people help her filly into the barn.

Buck: she was very stoked. She was kicking herself a little though, since her instincts had told her to put the mare in a stall earlier in the day. But, all's well that ends well.

Beautiful. Life springs eternal.

Learning to trust your instincts...hard to do when you are young. I'm betting it will be easier for her next time!

Horse babies are just beautiful. They always seemed like "old men" with their chin wiskers.

I truly love your horse pictures, the foal and mare are beautiful.

To be honest, I'm a smidge jealous that you're living my dream, but I am taking a great deal of vicarious pleasure through your posts. I feel pretty darn good about the world when I leave your house, Buckskin.

What Daphne said. Totally.

Thank you Daphne and Alison! One thing I've learned, is that it's never too late. If someone had told me five years ago that I would own horses today, I would have kindly pointed out the fact that they were off their rocker.

Life is a strange thing.

I'll try to get some more pictures of the filly tomorrow.
