Overheard at the Arena

Mrs. BR: "These are pleasure horses, they aren't supposed to go fast."

Me: "What's the point of horses that don't go fast? Madness!"

Just sayin'.

I like a horse that will go slow . . . and fast . . . when I want to! (But never Western pleasure slow - that's the "zombie shuffle".)

I think it is a pleasure to go fast.

I love a slow 'old lady' horse! They are the best...no crotch rockets for this gal.

Heh. My sons and I have had the same sort of discussions about steel horses ever since SN1 bought his first Hardley-Abelson.

I realize it's a preference thing...I just can't take going slow, except on the trail. Then I want to enjoy the view.

Buck, I'll stick to my One Horsepower. Less likely to creamed by a dump truck.

I went to a paint show a couple months ago to watch one of our girls at the barn do her first barrel race. She was the only real entry it turned out. The other horses were "pleasure horses" and watching their riders do the pattern was hilarious. Those horses did everything they could to swerve back to the rail and would only lope slowly thru the poles. I think the fastest one ran was in the 40s! They were puttin' me to sleep just watching them.

Katie showed Western Pleasure for a couple years before we took her up to Slide and rode their cutting horses.

It was all over after that.

She always used to get in trouble with her WP coach, too. Seemed even the slow horses would speed up when she rode them.

Bar has learned to slow down for me, but he'll never do the Zombie Shuffle. Thank goodness!!
