This is Gonna Be a Tough Sell...

I'm a bit of a Trekkie, as it were. I don't have a set of pointy ears, or clothes, or anything like that. I don't attend conventions. But I do love Star Trek, specifically the original series and movies.

It's hard for me to imagine any other actors portraying the characters from the original series, but I'll give them a chance. They just better get it right the first time.

I'll watch anything with Zachary Quinto in it. He's the fella playing young Spock. I'll give the movie a shot, but I'll especially try to keep an open mind, not easy to do considering the subject matter, since I'm a bit of a Trekkie, too.

As long as all of Kirk's love interests get killed and he gets all emotionally cheesy, it will be believable in my book.

Ah... I can't comment in this space as ST ain't my thing at all. I saw ST #1 way back in the day and am still wondering what all the brouhaha was/is about. Chalk that up to a "failure of imagination," I guess.

Christina: I'm more than a little concerned that they will botch it. Star Trek really hasn't been the same since Gene Roddenberry passed away.

Laura: Don't forget the token guys in the red shirts beaming down to the planet. Guaranteed phaser fodder.

Buck: I realize that Star Trek isn't for everyone. An acquired taste, I suppose.

Always been a fan myself, and for some reason I have shaken the skepticism here and am really looking forward to this one.

Just for fun: My age being what it is, my series was "The Next Generation." I loved that show, watched it all the time. I don't think it translated very well to the big screen, though. Those actors were TV actors, and I think movies were a bit too big for them. Plus - and I mean this - I think those unitard uniforms had no chance in big pictures.

"Unitard"...that's funny. I always I had a hard time with the TNG, except for the movies. I enjoyed Voyager, had no use for DS9, and just never managed to get into Enterprise, although I really tried.

I really do hope this new movie turns out well.

I was a big fan of TNG, saw most of TOS, didn't see much DS9, saw NONE of Voyager, though it's in my Netflix queue, and was a HUGE fan of Enterprise (it's the reason one of my dogs is named "Tucker", the other would have been "Archer", but the breeder recommended not having names that sound too much alike...*sigh*). I can't wait for this movie.

I loved the original series, grew up with it and had bizarre fantasies about hooking up with Spock. The movies were good, too, but by then Spock looked pretty decrepit and the thrill was gone.

I hope this one turns out good, my boys could use a little Star Trek in their lives.
