Freedom Isn't Free

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1915.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Happy Memorial Day, Buckskin! Just wanted to thank you for your service and let you know I was thinking about you on this day. It is because of people like you that we are able to live our lives in peace. Love the video - it reminds me not only of you but of Jed's grandfather who served on a Navy ship during WWII - he remembers shooting kamikazi's out of the sky and seeing torpedos go right under his ship. My own grandfather was a fighter pilot in WWII. Every generation must deal with the evil of it's day. We are lucky to have freedom loving warriors who will stand up and fight when called to do so. PS: I think I may have to post this video too, hope that's ok.

Very nice, BR. I wish more Americans today had your courage and sense of duty to this country. Thank you for your service.

I am so tired of the whine, whine, whine ...things aren't how they're supposed to be ...yet, the ones that whine the loudest and longest are also the ones least likely to step up and DO something to change its course. This country isn't perfect and I don't like the direction it is taking under the present administration, but it is OUR COUNTRY and, by God, I say LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT and let those of us who DO love it rebuild.

Hear, hear, Dave.

I too thank you (and all the other veterans and soldiers out there) for your service.

Happy Memorial Day. Your post is a good reminder of what we have and what it is we could lose.

I watched a show last night on American Cemeteries in other countries. It was nice to see some of the countries still paying their respects to the American soldiers that liberated their country. (I was a little taken back by how many American cemeteries there were across the world for some reason.)

Thank you.
God bless you.
God bless America.
