The Eagles are Landing

"If I lay really still, maybe he won't see me."

Today's weather was cool, crisp, and rain free. Tired of arena work, I took Smokey out on a solo ride along the Puyallup River levee. The ride was remarkable only in that it was unremarkable, so I won't bore you with the details.

Each year around this time, eagles descend upon the rivers of Western Washington to feed upon the remains of spawned out salmon. Some folks pay money to take river trips to view these majestic creatures. I need merely ride along the river for this privilege.

One of the first arrivals was roosting in a tree above the trail this afternoon. The picture isn't that great, as I was armed with only the cell phone camera.

I'll take a better camera camera out when more of them are in town.

Seeing the eagles are always a blessing! Thanks for sharing them with everyone. I see them alot too. But it's on the Mississippi River. Soon it will be froze over & they will go down by the dam where it never freezes over. Yes, I will look forward to your pictures. Oh, by the way I find it hard to believe that your ride was uneventful or dull. Cause things in nature isn't that at all. Just depends on how you look at things. Anything can be an adventure! Merry Christmas & Happy Holiday season to you & your family!

Rarely, twice I think so far, we have seen an eagle around here. I was up in the Wisc Dells area years ago, and a bald eagle soared right past my windshield. It was awesome to ses so close, they are huge.

We have eagles here too. There is a man down the road that takes any road kill out in a field for them to eat. We have a few that perch in our trees too.

I have not seen an eagle in OK, although I have heard that they are seen here. I have seen some in NM - beautiful birds!

Ah tis jealous I am. VERY jealous. We have an eagle-watching season here that starts in mid-January and goes until the final thaw, usually early April. They are so gorgeous, so amazing to be in the same breathing space with them. And that's at a fair distance.

Can't imagine the closeness you must experience on a horse.

Wow.

It is truly amazing to be able to see them up close in the wild. It's amazing how large and majestic the eagles are.

Jessica, you would have a heyday with your camera. A friend of ours who lives near the river has captured some truly amazing photos. If you can ever make it up here for eagle season, I strongly recommend.
